Attorney Stephen Smith is an accomplished Maine trial lawyer with more than 28 years of legal experience and a distinguished military background spanning over two decades. His service in the U.S. Army’s 3rd Ranger Battalion during Operation Desert Storm, followed by leadership roles in the Maine Army National Guard, helped develop the discipline, resilience, and strategic thinking that define his legal practice. He later became one of the National Guard’s first direct commissioned officers and served as a Judge Advocate General (JAG) officer, including an 18-month deployment to Afghanistan as a military prosecutor.
After founding his law firm in 2000, Steve built a reputation for providing strong legal representation in criminal defense, family law, personal injury, and complex civil litigation matters. He has represented thousands of clients throughout Maine and has successfully handled more than 100 serious jury trials in both state and federal courts, in addition to numerous bench trials. Admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the First Circuit Court of Appeals, federal and state courts, and the Penobscot and Passamaquoddy Tribal Courts, Steve is widely respected for his extensive courtroom experience and unwavering commitment to achieving favorable outcomes in high-stakes cases.
