About Peter Thompson

Peter Thompson, Esq., is an unwavering, determined, and reliable immigration and criminal law attorney known for his tireless efforts in handling critical legal issues. A trial attorney with over 25 years of trial and appellate experience, Peter actively represents individual clients in both the immigration and criminal courts. He is passionate about his work and clients and, through careful and rigorous preparation, confident in his representation. He is devoted to the success of his clients and their protection within our legal system.

In 1999, Peter joined the Defender Association of Philadelphia. A public defender, he represented children and adults in criminal court. Peter then joined the appellate unit, all the while actively working with clients in the criminal trial courts. In 2008, he was chosen for and accepted the Director of the Defender’s Immigration Project position. An industry leader, this unique collaboration between immigration specialists and criminal trial attorneys works tirelessly to advise non-citizen (immigrant) clients of the immigration consequences of criminal charges and convictions. In 2010, Peter and his team joined in an amicus brief for the (ultimately successful) Supreme Court case Padilla v. Kentucky.

Frequently Asked Questions

Peter Thompson’s attorney profile can help users review available information about his listed legal services, but users should confirm the exact practice areas directly on the profile or with the law firm. Attorney profile pages may include practice categories, contact details, location information, and service descriptions that help users decide whether to request a consultation.
A legal matter may involve evidence, documents, deadlines, negotiation, settlement discussions, court procedures, or litigation depending on the facts. Before contacting an attorney, compare your issue with the listed practice areas. During consultation, ask whether Peter Thompson handles similar matters, what documents are needed, and what legal options may apply.
You should contact Peter Thompson when your legal issue involves deadlines, court papers, financial risk, legal rights, evidence, negotiation, or uncertainty about what to do next. A lawyer can review the facts and explain whether your matter may require legal representation.
Early contact may be helpful if you have received legal notices, are dealing with an insurance claim, need to respond to another party, or are considering settlement. A consultation can help you understand the process, possible risks, attorney fees, and whether a lawsuit may be necessary. Contacting a lawyer does not guarantee an outcome, but it can support better decision-making.
FindTheLawyers can help users learn more about Peter Thompson by providing an attorney profile page with available information in one place. Users may review listed practice areas, contact options, location details, and other profile content before deciding whether to reach out.
This can help users begin the attorney research process more efficiently. However, users should confirm all important details directly with the law firm before hiring. Ask about current practice areas, consultation availability, attorney fees, experience with similar legal claims, and how communication is handled. FindTheLawyers helps users explore attorney options, but direct consultation remains important.
FindTheLawyers can help users compare Peter Thompson with other attorneys by reviewing attorney profiles and practice area information. This can help users narrow down lawyers who may be relevant to their legal issue before making contact.
Practice area comparison is important because different legal matters require different knowledge, documents, and procedures. Some cases may involve settlement negotiations, while others may require court filings or litigation. Users should compare profile details, then ask direct questions about experience, attorney fees, communication, and case evaluation. This helps users choose representation based on fit and specific legal needs.
The cost to hire Peter Thompson depends on the type of legal matter, case complexity, billing method, and written fee agreement. Attorneys may charge hourly fees, flat fees, retainers, contingency fees, or other arrangements depending on the practice area and case type.
Users should ask for a clear explanation of attorney fees before signing any agreement. Important questions include whether a consultation is free or paid, what costs may be separate from legal fees, how billing is handled, and whether expenses may be owed during or after the case. A written fee agreement can help avoid confusion.
Some legal issues may be resolved through settlement or negotiation, depending on the facts, the parties, and the type of legal claim. Settlement means the parties reach an agreement without requiring a final court decision, while negotiation is the discussion process used to try to resolve a dispute.
Not every case can be settled, and some matters may require litigation if the parties disagree about facts, liability, damages, or legal rights. A lawyer can review evidence, explain risks, prepare communications, and help evaluate whether a proposed settlement is reasonable. During consultation, ask Peter Thompson whether negotiation may be realistic for your specific matter.
