Rui P. Alves is a Rhode Island and Massachusetts Family Court trial lawyer who practices before state courts, including the Providence, Kent, Washington, and Newport Family Courts. He earned his B.S. in Criminal Justice from Northeastern University and his law degree from Roger Williams University School of Law. He also studied European Union law at the Catholic University of Portugal, School of Law in Lisbon. Rui is fluent in Portuguese and Spanish.
Before joining Barton Gilman, Rui operated Alves Law Offices Inc. and worked at Schreiber & Schreiber, P.C. He also gained legal experience with Citizens Financial Group and the Rhode Island Judiciary, where he served as a Senior Criminal Clerk. His professional background also includes work with the Boston Police Department and Massachusetts Criminal History Systems Board. He is President of the Board of Directors for the Samaritans of Rhode Island.
