Zachary M. Nightingale is a California State Bar Certified Specialist in Immigration and Nationality Law. He has been with the firm since 1996, became a partner in 2003, and is currently managing partner of Van Der Hout, LLP (previously Van Der Hout, Brigagliano & Nightingale, LLP). His practice focuses on deportation defense and federal court litigation, with an emphasis on the immigration consequences of criminal convictions.
Other specialties include asylum, naturalization, and family-based adjustment of status, and he regularly advises non-citizens and their attorneys on minimizing the immigration consequences of pending criminal charges. He received the 2003 Jack Wasserman Memorial Award from AILA and the 2014 National Immigration Project award for outstanding contributions to immigrant justice. He has litigated cases establishing new Ninth Circuit law, served as an expert witness in federal and California state courts, speaks regularly at AILA and NIP-NLG conferences, and serves on nonprofit boards.
