Erik Hansen is the Managing Partner at Burns and Hansen, where he focuses on complex civil litigation, appellate advocacy, and business transactions. With more than 20 years of experience, he has handled high-stakes, multimillion-dollar disputes in state and federal courts in Minnesota and across the country. Erik has argued more than 80 cases before state and federal appellate courts and has successfully advocated for clients at every level of Minnesota's state court system, as well as in multiple federal jurisdictions.
Erik also advises businesses on transactions, regulatory compliance, risk management, ownership disputes, and business succession. His intellectual property work includes copyright and trademark registration, acquisition, and litigation. He earned his law degree from the University of Minnesota Law School and studied Political Science and European Studies at the University of Minnesota–Morris. Recognized as a Super Lawyer or Rising Star every year since 2006, Erik was named Minnesota Lawyer's Attorney of the Year in 2016. He has also chaired the Minnesota State Bar Association's Appellate Law Section and served on the Minnesota Supreme Court's Advisory Committee on Rules of Civil Appellate Procedure for a decade. Outside his legal practice, he serves on the Rethos Board as Main Street Committee Chair and the Mitchell Lake Association Board, and enjoys coaching youth soccer, hiking, and traveling.
