John Y. U. Choi is an experienced attorney in Hawaii with a background in government litigation, jury trials, and personal injury representation. He graduated from the University of California, Irvine, where he received the Order of Omega distinction. Before attending Vermont Law School, John taught at the Princeton Review and received its Teacher of the Year Award. During law school, he contributed to the Vermont Bar Journal and founded an Asian Pacific American Law Students Association chapter. After graduating, he returned to Hawaii and served as a Deputy Attorney General for the State of Hawaii, litigating numerous cases, including three appeals before the Hawaii Supreme Court, all of which he won. One of his Supreme Court cases was published and addressed the separation of powers doctrine.
John has also achieved successful outcomes in jury trials, serving as lead attorney in one trial and second chair in another, winning both cases. He has been involved in community and professional organizations, including serving as president of a Hawaii Junior Chamber of Commerce chapter and president of the Christian Legal Society in Hawaii.
