James J. Ruane is the founding partner of Ruane DUI & Criminal Defense Attorneys, which he started with his son, Jay. His guiding belief is that everyone has the right to a fair trial and the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. He worked his way through law school and began his career in the Public Defender's office as an investigator, eventually leading that office before being recruited by the firm Meehan & Meehan.
He later formed his own practice, and when Jay became a lawyer they opened their firm together in 2001. Jim is one of only a handful of Certified Criminal Defense Specialists in Connecticut and was certified as a criminal trial specialist in 1985 by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. He received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Connecticut Law Tribune and served as President of the Connecticut Criminal Defense Lawyers Association.
