James Dunn is the senior trial attorney at the Law Office of James Dunn, a criminal defense and DUI practice serving San Jose and the wider Bay Area. He began his career as a postgraduate law clerk for the Los Angeles County District Attorney, prosecuting jury trials involving domestic violence, theft, drugs, guns, DUI and auto burglary, and clerking for the Hardcore Gang Unit. In private practice he has tried over eighty jury trials and handles everything from misdemeanor petty theft and DUI to sex crimes and serious or violent felonies.
He also litigates writs and appeals, winning the landmark decision Brenner v. DMV (2010) 189 Cal.App.4th 365, affirmed by the California Supreme Court. Mr. Dunn is a Specialist Member and board member of the California DUI Lawyers Association, presents MCLE programs, and belongs to NACDL, California Attorneys for Criminal Justice and the National Police Accountability Project.
